Utah +8 -110 over USC

9:30 PM EST. Utah sits near the bottom of the Pac-12, but the Runnin' Utes are coming off a nice road trip to the state of Washington, where they left with two victories over the Cougars and Huskies, which is no easy task. We won't waste a bunch of space here on Utah, as it is the Trojans that are the focus of this fade, however, the Utes are fine fodder to play the role of spoiler in this spot.

The Trojans are coming off a 75-55 win over Oregon State and a lopsided score such as that is likely to get some attention here, but this is not the kind of program you want to spot points with. USC was a +3½-point pooch in that contest and now they are favored here by a significant price, which has caused a double-digit swing in the spread from one game to the next and that cannot be. Sure, the Trojans have won three of their last four, but one of those was an 82-78 triumph over Stanford in a game that USC trailed by 17 at halftime. It wasn't that long ago (January 5th) that the Trojans got whacked by Washington 72-40, but this recent run of success has them a half-game back of the Pac-12 lead, which has also inflated their stock. In that romp over the Beavers, the Trojans shot a ridiculous 68.1%, which was their best performance since a 2007 win over Delaware State. A repeat performance isn’t happening here. USC is not a contender despite what the conference standings say, as they post a Pac-12 worst free-throw percentage (67.1%) and the conference's worst turnover margin (-1.75). Missing free baskets and turning the ball over is not a recipe for covering a significant price. The Trojans are winning despite themselves thus, a correction to the bad is coming. Definite upset possibility.
