8:30 PM EST. St. John's is coming off a hard-fought and highly emotional victory over defending national champions, Villanova, which has the Red Storm in a prime letdown spot here. That 71-65 win over the Wildcats was the biggest comeback the Johnnies have orchestrated in nine seasons, as they were down 17-points at one time before storming back. That win was the Red Storm's second in a row and third in four games bringing their season record to a nice 19-7, but before you get too excited about that mark, a closer look shows that the Storm have been feasting on cupcakes to pad that record with a non-conference schedule that ranks 321-of-353 graded schools in the nation. Sacred Heart, St. Francis (NY) and Wagner are just a few of the little guys the Johnnies have picked on this season and there were four other games where they were favored by 15-points or more. You may have read about the Red Storm's 12-0 start to the season, but most of those wins aren't worth the paper those game lineups were written on. The Johnnies are finding life much more difficult in the Big East where they are 7-6 and in the muddy mess where just three wins separate the third-place side from the last.

Speaking of last place, we'd like to introduce you to the Friars of Providence, who are 14-12 overall, but just 4-9 in Big East play. The Friars have hit a tough run of games that have seen them go just 1-5 over their last six including back-to-back losses to Xavier and Villanova. Defeats at Seton Hall, Depaul and at home to Georgetown round out Providence’s recent struggles, but there has been a lone bright spot the last three weeks, a 70-56 drubbing of the Red Storm At Madison Square Gardens on February 9th. The Friars were a 5½-point pooch that night and are now the betting favorite here despite not winning a game since. Combine that with the Johnnies high-profile win on Saturday and we once again have the market focusing or overvaluing the most recent results of which we are the beneficiaries of.
