Vanessa Melo +187 over Sarah Moras

12:45 PM EST. Vanessa Melo has yet to taste victory in the Octagon, but do not let that fact deter you from giving her a long look here. The Brazilian rode a five-fight winning streak to a UFC contract but has gone 0-3 in the promotion. Despite the losing streak, Melo has been active, with her last appearance coming here on Fight Island last July. We'll not go on about Melo, as this is more about fading her opponent than it is backing this capable fighter.

Let's discuss the once promising career of Sarah Moras. "Cheesecake" won two of her first three fights in the UFC after a strong showing on The Ultimate Fighter 23. However, in the three years since her submission victory over Ashlee Evans-Smith in September of 2017, Moras has gone just 1-4 in the UFC, with her last victory coming against Liana Jojua at UFC 242 in September of 2019. She has fought just once since then, a loss to Sijara Eubanks last May. Moras may have once been on the upswing at 135 lbs, but those days are long past. One has to wonder what she is fighting for at this point, other than a modest paycheck. This fight has been in the making for months, as these two were set to square off in the Octagon last year, which is why Moras, a native of Kelowna, BC, has been training in Las Vegas for six months. Many have had their mental health tested during the pandemic, and Moras is no different. She's been training for the same opponent for months while living out of a suitcase, knowing that her UFC career is likely on the line here. When asked about the future, all Moras could offer was, "Right now, we're liking Vegas. This is the place to be for fight camps, but I guess we'll see what happens with the world." That demeanour does not inspire confidence.

The UFC's 135 lbs women's division is one of the most shallow in the promotion, making it really hard to lay a significant price with any fighter in it, especially those outside the Top-15. This fight is not different.
