B.C. LIONS -103 over Saskatchewan

10:30 PM EST. After two months of football, it might be easy to forget the Roughriders were supposed to be the class of the West Division. Backed by the most passionate fans in the country and the Most Outstanding Player favorite at the league’s most important position, Saskatchewan was supposed to run roughshod on their way to Hamilton for December’s Grey Cup (finger’s crossed we get that far). However, the Roughies are a respectable 4-2, respectable, but back-to-back blowout losses to the much hated Blue Bombers on Labour Day and the follow up Banjo Bowl had to have planted the seeds of doubt in the Land of the Living Skies whether the Riders and their faithful fans know it or not. Suffering losses to the defending champion Blue Bombers might be easy to excuse on the surface, but when you peel back the onion that has been the Roughriders season, that apple is rotten.

The Riders have played just one road game this season and got whacked 33-9 in Winnipeg. Their wins have all come at home, but that three game streak to start the year looks to be pretty long in the rearview from where we are sitting. Saskatchewan does not pass the eye test. Cody Fajardo looks all fucked up, and is good for at least a half a dozen throws he should not make every time out. That will catch up to a motherfucker eventually, if it hasn’t already. The Blue Bombers made Fajardo shit his pants down after down and he couldn’t wait to cough up the rock, especially on Labour Day where he was picked off three times. Dude can’t throw, can’t run and doesn’t make good decisions. Is that a guy you want to back on the road?

The Lions have won three straight, but they are still not getting much love in the market. At 4-2, doesn’t B.C. deserve the respect to at least be the chalk on its home turf? The market does not think so. However, over the years there have been many Friday night massacres in Vancouver, which is never an easy place to play even when the Lions are not playing well. This year, they are, it’s just that nobody is noticing. A short price home team that is under the radar against an overhyped visitor? Sign us up every time.
