9:00 PM EST. The Lions lost last weekend's home opener against the Blue Bombers by a double-digit margin after scoring just six points in the second half, but unlike what the 33-23 final score may have you believe, B.C. was not outclassed. The Lions had a 17-14 lead at half time with all of the momentum after scoring 11-points in the final 2:25 of the second quarter. In his first game in orange and black after six years in Edmonton, Mike Reilly didn't miss a beat with his new offensive weapons. The veteran pivot outdueled the Bombers Matt Nichols by a wide margin (324 yards to 184), but he was picked off twice, while Winnipeg didn't turn the ball over.

Reilly will be the focus again tonight, as he returns to the Alberta capital where for six seasons he was arguably the best quarterback in the league (with all due respect to Ricky Ray and Bo Levi Mitchell). Reilly's decision to return to Vancouver to again collaborate with Ed Hervey, who was the G.M. of the Eskimos that made the trade for Reilly in the first place, set off a chain reaction of quarterback movement that hasn't been seen in this league in a long time. With Reilly gone to the west coast, the Eskies raided the Redblacks and snatched their Grey Cup-winning quarterback and his favorite receiver.

Trevor Harris put up huge numbers last week, but the Esks took their foot off the gas and allowed the Alouettes to sneak in the back door and cover. Anyone that watched that game or read the box score in preparation of this Week 2 homecoming of sorts isn't likely to be swayed, as Harris and his 32-of-41 passing for 447 yards and three majors made it easy to forget about being dumped by Reilly. While the numbers were impressive, we're not sure how much stock to put into them, as the Als obviously have some work to do after an offseason of turmoil. We were thankful to cash out our Als ticket last weekend, but realize that we were quite fortunate to do so.

This appears to be a short price on Edmonton, as it shot the lights out on the scoreboard in Week 1, while the Leos couldn't get the ground game going and they couldn't get a stop when they needed it in the second half last week. In fact, if you watched the Lions last week, it had to leave a foul taste in your mouth after watching them run for four yards on four carries the entire game. That is almost hard to believe but it’s true. Even though last week was the season opener, there is no question that Reilly had this return to Edmonton in the forefront of his mind. B.C. looked bad last week while the Eskimos looked good but let us remind you that B.C. played Winnipeg while the Eskies played Montreal.  This early in the season, we are mindful of over and under-reactions and this game looks like it should be Edmonton's to lose and Harris and company can name the score but one can never put emphasis on one game, especially the first game of the season. When it is difficult to bet a team, like it is to bet B.C. this week, that is usually the prudent play and it’s precisely where we’re going. B.C. outright is the call.
