Vegas +124 over Nashville

8:07 PM EST. OT included. Vegas appears to have found its groove after winning four of their last five, and if we take a look at their last couple of weeks, the Golden Knights are among the top performers in puck possession (third) across that span. Furthermore, the Knights are third in expected goals for and fifth in high-danger scoring chances. We acknowledge the Golden Knights played last night in St. Louis, but we are not going to be deterred from playing them here considering the value there is to be had. While not official at the time of this posting, it’s expected with Adin Hill injured that Logan Thompson will step up and play again tonight after turning away 31-of-32 shots last night.

The Predators are one of the hottest teams in the NHL, going 15-0-2 over their last 17 games. The last time the Preds took a regulation loss was the day after Valentine's Day, in a 9-2 drubbing from the Stars. After that game, Nashville had been all but written off for a meaningful run at the playoffs, but five and a half weeks later, they are solidly entrenched as a Wild Card team with 88 points, three up on Vegas, who sits in the second Wild Card position, and eight points up on St. Louis and 11 up on Minnesota who are on the outside looking in.

We’re not going to take anything away from the Preds and their incredible 17-game point streak, however, that is the longest consecutive point streak of any team this season, and with each game, the Preds' stock increases. We cannot predict if Nashville’s improbably hot run will continue, but we do know that there is a premium to be paid to back them at the moment, and until there is a market correction, the Preds are going to be overvalued more often than now when they take the ice. To further that point, Nashville is also coming off a 3-0 shutout, which is a scenario that is often worthy of fade consideration. There is risk here, but the potential profit makes the juice worth the squeeze.
