12:00 PM EST. The Bulldogs were nearly upset at home last week by a clearly overlooked opponent in Georgia Southern. The Dawgs once again are tasked with traveling to Atlanta to face arch rival Georgia Tech whom employ similar tactics offensively to Georgia Southern. Tech features a dynamic triple-option attack that can be very difficult to spell. While the Dawgs were successful in getting the win last week, there were many occurrences where Georgia seemed to struggle to contain the two-headed monster of quarterbacks Fabian Upshaw and Kevin Ellison. Many may speculate that the Dawgs were napping and conversely Georgia Southern did their homework. Sure, there is some truth to that but it is also indicative of the terrible offensive play that has plagued the Dawgs over the course of the 2015-16 season. The Dawgs have won games on their defense alone, sporting one of the nation’s best against the pass. Unfortunately for defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt, the Jackets specialize in the run and the Dawgs are a bit more accommodating in that department, surrendering 146 yards per game.

Factoring in Georgia Tech’s home field advantage and their incentive to win this potent rivalry series for program pride and this pooch instantly becomes a live one. To further substantiate that, one cannot help but notice the dissension within Georgia’s ranks. The culture of the Georgia faithful calling for the head of Coach Mark Richt, combined with a disappointing campaign altogether has created turmoil among the Bulldog Nation. With this rivalry game remaining on the schedule, the distractions could not come at a worse time. Many of these contests have featured a winner that emerged victorious by one possession. In fact, five of the last seven installments of “Clean Old-Fashioned Hate” were settled by a margin of eight points or less. In addition, the previous two collisions between the Jackets and Dawgs were settled in overtime, serving as the penultimate conclusion to historic comebacks where the visiting team would dramatically escape the opposition’s hostile environment. Simply put, a rivalry of this nature is far too difficult to prognosticate or diagnose but when you have a visiting team spotting a fair amount of points with a lethargic offense and abundant off the field issues, a highly motivated Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets team is poised to serve these Dawgs yet another blow. Don’t be afraid to play Tech outright.
