Washington over Toronto

4:05 PM EST. Jake Irvin (RHP - WAS) isn't the target here, but it's worth noting that he secured the win on Monday against the Marlins, giving up two runs on four hits over six innings. While these numbers may not leap off the page, they marked Irvin's third quality start of the season. In that outing, Irvin threw 59 of his 84 pitches for strikes and carried a shutout into the sixth inning. With 33.2 IP under his belt, Irvin boasts 26 Ks to 7 BBs, making him more than serviceable as an underdog in this spot.

The general consensus is that Kevin Gausman is back to his normal self after a rough start to the season, but we're not ready to crown him quite yet. Gausman is coming off his first win of the year, and while it came against the Dodgers, those seven innings of one-run ball were far from flawless. Gausman allowed four extra-base hits versus L.A., and he only managed to generate a 17 percent whiff rate. It's also worth noting that the Blue Jays' defense bailed him out with a perfect strand rate of 100%. Gausman also experienced a decrease in the velocity of his four-seamer and splitter. Furthermore, he's had issues throwing his splitter for strikes, with that pitch boasting just a 26 percent zone rate. Count us among those who aren't ready to declare Gausman fully back, as we're opting to fade him again today.
