The market sees the Kraken as a struggling team, a squad that just went 1-3-1 on a homestand and sits 11 points out of a playoff spot. What it fails to recognize is that Seattle is still playing competitive hockey, and this is a great spot for them to bounce back.

The Flames, meanwhile, have dropped three straight at home and four of their last five at the Saddledome. This is a team that has lost its grip on a playoff position and is now playing with added pressure. Calgary’s recent results include losses to Chicago and St. Louis—hardly world-beaters—yet the market still trusts them as favorites here. That’s a mistake.

Seattle’s biggest issue has been slow starts, falling behind early in each of their last three games. That’s correctable, and facing a Flames team that has been sluggish themselves should help. Meanwhile, Calgary’s struggles at home are no fluke. They’ve been outplayed for long stretches in front of their own fans, and their energy levels have been inconsistent.

In short, the Kraken are being undervalued here. They’re capable of taking advantage of a vulnerable Calgary team that isn’t playing with confidence at home. This is a ripe opportunity to fade a Flames team that continues to be priced like a playoff contender when, in reality, they look anything but.
