Vegas +165 over Edmonton

10:00 PM EST. OT included. The Oilers are finding out what happens when one relies too much on power-play goals to win hockey games. Edmonton has scored 17 goals in this series, but only eight of those have come at even strength. The Oilers' stellar power play was hyped as an advantage for Edmonton, but we’ve long preached that special teams scoring is a "luck-based" statistic that one cannot count on over time to be successful. To win in this league, you have to be at your best 5-on-5.

Enter the Golden Knights, who have dominated the play at even strength, scoring 13 of their 17 goals 5-on-5. While there are no guarantees that Vegas will continue to be the better team at even strength, the significant price they are being offered up at tonight makes it easy to find out.

Vegas has played well on the road all season, so this is nothing more than another business trip for them, but for Edmonton, there is going to be a ton of pressure to perform on home ice and extend this series. We have no doubt that Rogers Arena will be rocking, but if the Knights get that first goal or two, the pins and needles of those 19,000 in attendance are going to pop the balloon and let the air out of that barn. Of course, the Oilers have the firepower to win this game, but the premium one must pay to back them is far too steep considering the circumstances.
