Vegas +160 over Edmonton

8:30 PM EST. OT included. The lasting image of the Oilers 5-1 Game 2 win was that of Oilers' Evander Kane being told by a spectator in Vegas that he was her number one (or maybe number two) favorite player, by way of two middle fingers, one extended on each hand. The Oilers came out strong and took control of the game early, jumping out to a 4-0 lead in the first period. The Golden Knights struggled to generate offense and were unable to mount a comeback, ultimately losing the game 5-1.

Well, that's the story you'll get at the water cooler, but one of the key factors in the Oilers victory was their power play, which was incredibly effective, scoring three goals on six chances. We always preach that powerplay goals are a luck-based statistic, and one cannot predict when that well will dry up. 5-on-5, the Golden Knights were the much better team based on the analytics in Game 2, but that matters not in a results-based business where perception is reality and wins are all that matter.

Can the Knights stay out of the box tonight? Will the Oilers make them pay for every small infraction? Will Laurent Brossoit have an off night? What about Stuart Skinner? These are all questions that nobody can answer. The only thing we can do is play the value, which tonight is 100% on the visiting Golden Knights. How can Vegas be such an inflated price in this spot when it’s going to be a bounce or two that decides the results? The outcome of this game is far closer to a 50/50 proposition than this line suggests. We’ll take our chances with the Golden Knights and let the chips fall where they may.
