Western Conference Quarterfinal

Game 6

Calgary -½ +105 over Dallas

9:30 PM EST. Regulation only. The Flames have been incredibly unlucky to make it here to Game 6 (series should be over), but one has to figure the floodgates are going to open before this series is over. Pick any underlying statistic you want and the Flames have led the way. Puck possession, expected goals, high danger scoring chances, you get the idea. Counting down from Games 5 to 1, the Flames have outshot the Stars, 32-21, 54-32, 41-31, 29-22, and 26-16. If you ever needed another reminder of how luck-driven the results in the NHL can be, this series is it. That it’s just 3-2 Calgary flatters the Stars spectacularly.

The Flames won Game 4, 4-1, but they should have won 9-1. They won Game 5 at home 3-1 on the back of three third-period goals. Calgary should have won that game 6-1. Again, you get the point. The Flames have yet to be truly rewarded for their dominant effort while the Stars have not been truly punished for their sub-standard play. If not for the hottest goalie in these playoffs, Jake Oettinger, the Stars would have been golfing a week ago.

Tonight the series ends unless the Stars get off-the-charts lucky. It’s now just a matter of what the score will be. We’ll take our chances that the superiority wins over extreme luck while taking back a porkchop in the process.
