Washington +246 over Florida

7:00 PM EST. Overtime included. First, we’d just like to tip our cap to Panthers netminder, Sergei Bobrovsky, who actually played pretty damn well in Game 1. The only problem is that his teammates did not take advantage of that rarity. To expect “Bob” to string together quality playoff performances might be a big ask. We’re willing to wager that said big ask is not happening.

Florida was flat in Game 1, with the Caps skating circles around them for two periods, outshooting the Cats 31-20 through 40 minutes. Despite that, the Panthers took a 2-1 lead into the third period all thanks to “Bob.” However, that extra effort may have cost the Cats in that final frame, as the Capitals stormed back with two goals to take the lead, adding an empty netter for the 4-2 win. For a team that made its hay in the regular season by consistently overcoming multiple-goal deficits, not being able to play from the front must have stung. A lot.

The Capitals threw nine high danger scoring chances at Bobrovsky in Game 1 and he turned all but two away. It’s in those underlying statistics that there figures to be some regression from “Bob” to the bad. During the regular season, Bobrovsky posted just a .918 save percentage, which has him hanging out with non-playoff goalies Carter Hart, and Elvis Merzlikins.  Marc-Andre Fleury is in there with those stiffs, but he was lucky to be traded to a playoff-bound team at the deadline. With Fleury, the Blackhawks were trash. The Panthers won the President's trophy this season in spite of “Bob” and not because of him.

Meanwhile, the Caps are surely eager to get right back on the ice after going stride for stride with the playoff’s top seed. This is a group that came in with a big chip on their shoulders because of the price they were being offered in Game 1. After that win, the price here in Game 2 has to be just as motivating, if not more. Florida again opened as a significant favorite at a bloated -235, but now they have been pounded up to the ridiculous price you see now.

The Capitals are free rolling right now, which makes them very dangerous. Just getting the split in Sunrise has to feel good, but this is a veteran group that knows the pain of playoff failure. We highly doubt that Washington is going to be satisfied with just one win. While it’s only one game, it feels like the Panthers are reeling and ready for a knockout blow. Washington had the best road record in the regular season and were true to that form on Tuesday night. The Caps played a damn near perfect road game on night one. The value here on Ovechkin and company in Game 2 cannot be ignored nor passed up. No reason not to take another swing here.
