L.A’s under the hood numbers confirm that its early season success is indeed sustainable. The Kings are coming off back-to-back victories over Montreal and Toronto. They have won six in a row because they usually want it more than the opposition. What’s different about this L.A. team than recent years past is that this year’s edition is creating chances at a high rate. In fact, the Kings are fifth in the NHL in Scoring Chances per 60 minutes while Ottawa ranks 18th. The Kings also rank 14th in puck-possession time during five-on-five play in the offensive end while the Sens rank 29th. Give the Kings a significant edge in net also.

Ottawa has announced that Alex Formenton and Matt Murray have been placed in the COVID protocol. Andrew Agozzino, Dillon Heatherington, and Lassi Thomson have all been recalled from the AHL as tonight’s game is still currently scheduled to proceed. Formenton and Murray join a growing list of players in the protocol for Ottawa, which also includes Connor Brown, Victor Mete, Austin Watson, Nick Holden, Dylan Gambrell, Josh Brown, and assistant coach Jack Capuano. That is a huge chunk of the team, including several important pieces. Ottawa has one victory in its last nine games. That came against Dallas when the Sens were outshot 39-24. This is a host that is undermanned and gripping their sticks way too tight to be evenly priced against a team that cannot wait to get back on the ice.
