Boston +106 over Washington

7:15 PM EST. It was a great weekend of NHL playoffs, as four series got underway with each team putting forth a tremendous effort with the exception of one team. While the Capitals, Panthers, Penguins, Islanders, and Bolts came ready to play, the Bruins were the only team that thought it was Game #57 in a 56 game regular season. Instead of taking advantage of a massive opportunity to win Game 1 in Washington, Boston played one of their worst games of the year. To put it bluntly, it was a fucking disgrace.

Down 1-0 at 13:10 of the first period, not only did Jake DeBrusk tie the game at 1-1, but he also sent Vitek Vanecek off the ice with his snipe. Vanecek injured his left leg while pushing to his right to stop DeBrusk’s shot. The Capitals were forced to turn to Craig Anderson, their 4th string goaltender on their organizational depth chart. The Bruins should have seized the opportunity against the 40-year-old, who had appeared in only four regular-season games. Anderson would go on to stop 21 of 22 shots with most of them being of the easy variety. Instead of elevating their play and attacking relentlessly, the second, third and fourth lines were standing around like a bunch of fucking donkeys. The second line generated three even strength shots on goal the entire game. We don’t know if the B’s are going to wake up or let this very average Caps team dictate the play again but we’re going to make a wager to find out.

We already have the Bruins to win in six or less but at +106 against a fourth string goaltender, it’s a steal of a price. It is uncertain whether or not Vanecek will play, but the Caps are being hush-hush about it and we’ve seen injuries like the one he suffered before that strongly suggests he won’t be back. The B’s have always prided themselves as being this relentless, hard working, physical squad that does not quit. The Bruins did not want it badly enough in Game 1 and while we have no way of knowing what their mindset is, not wanting it is not a typical characteristic of the B’s. We have to trust that we’ll see a different Bruins’ team in Game 2.
