MONTREAL -½ +194 over Edmonton

5:08 PM EST. Regulation only. We often write about sticking with a team after backing them in a losing situation, which is precisely the case here with the Canadiens. Montreal dropped a 4-3 overtime decision to these Oilers on Monday and while the final result was not what they were looking for, the Habs got the point they needed to clinch a playoff spot. They are now jockeying with the free-falling Jets for the third seed in the North Division. A date with the Oilers might not sound like much of a prize, but the fourth seed will draw the first place Maple Leafs.

Not much has changed with regards to our thoughts on the Oilers and what might motivate them here. They are locked in the two hole and have nothing to gain from banging bodies against a potential playoff opponent. The Habs could not stop McDavid and Draisaitl last time out, which is why the Oilers won on Monday night. Limiting those two is key for any team that wants to beat the Oilers, as they do not run deep. If McDavid does go all out again tonight, we'll have to question just what he and Oilers coach Dave Tippett is thinking.

There is chatter that the Habs could rest some bodies tonight and if that happens, we could see a big swing in this line, much like we did in the Bruins/Capitals game last night. The B's sent out the JV squad and they hung with the Caps, who took their only lead of the game with less than two seconds to go in regulation. The next man up philosophy applies to more than just football. The guys that usually do not get to play or are limited in how they are used on most nights relish the chance to blow it wide open. An unmotivated Edmonton team is a sloppy, turnover machine that likely isn’t going to be giving McDavid and Draisaitl the minutes they usually get. In what is essentially a 50/50 proposition with both sides not wanting to play extra time, the Canadiens once again offer up all the value here.
