Montreal -½ +188 over EDMONTON

10:00 PM EST. Regulation only. We backed the Canadiens on Monday against the Oilers and although Montreal put up an early fight, including the game's first goal, it wasn't long before the floodgates opened and the Oil gushed over in a four goal third period. We wrote on Monday that the Oilers do not run deep and that if you can slow down #97, you have a shot. Well, Mr. McDavid was involved in three of the four Oiler goals, save for the empty netter with 1:39 to go. While the box score says 4-1 Oilers, we see it as 3-0 McDavid. So now what?

It will not be easy for those who bet the Habs two nights ago to come back on them here, but we will not be deterred. Yes, Montreal has now lost two straight, including a 4-0 blanking from Ottawa on Saturday night. The Canadiens have been outscored 8-1 in those two defeats but it’s very simply a case of poor puck luck and not having the snipers they thought they had. Still, Montreal remains very dangerous and not a team anyone wants to see in the playoffs.

The case to be made for the Oilers is an easy one. They are scoring in bunches, have the game's best player and they are at home where they've won eight games in a row. That's just one short of the team record set in 2017. As for Montreal? Their plight has already been touched on in this space and we doubt there is much that could be said to sway a fickle market that doesn't look as if it has any interest in the Habs today. However, we are not going to give up after one result. One of the most important concepts in wagering is sticking with it, meaning if we like Montreal at a smaller price on Monday, we must stick with it at a bigger price today.

The Oilers have four days off after tonight and a huge two game set with Winnipeg on deck that could decide who finishes second in the North and secures home ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs. While the Oilers may not quite be looking ahead to those games, they may be looking forward to a little R & R. If McDavid beats us by himself again, so be it, but by sticking with the Habs, we are going with the best of it. Nos bras meurtris vous tendent le flambeau, à vous toujours de le porter bien haut. We expect to see you at the window.
