ARIZONA -½ +280 over Vegas

9:08 pm EST. Regulation only. We’re only four games in thus far but the Golden Knights are 4-0 and market perception is that they’re one of the best teams in the NHL. That may very well end up to be true but if you’re one of the few on the East Coast that stay up late to watch NHL hockey on the West Cost, then you’re probably aware that the Knights looked flawed. In fact, Vegas ranks 21st in puck-possession time in the offensive end this season during five-on-five play while the Coyotes rank 12th. 

Arizona and Vegas will play for the third time in succession here with Vegas winning the first two by scores of 4-2 and 5-2 respectively. Arizona had a 2-0 lead in the first game but eventually blew it. Vegas probably deserved to win that game but they certainly did not deserve the W in the second game in which he ‘Yoyes easily won the time of possession battle in the offensive end. Arizona created 25 scoring chances to Vegas’ 17. The 5-2 final was very misleading and also misleading was Vegas’ opening night 5-2 win over Anaheim. The Golden Knights were outplayed in that one too. 

Vegas has not had a difficult schedule so far. They have played four games, all at home, against two teams that aren’t likely to make the playoffs. They were outplayed in two of them and now they’ll play the Coyotes for the third time in three games. 

Arizona has little star power but they are not an easy out. The Yotes only have three out of eight points so far but one could argue correctly that they deserve better. Surprisingly, the Coyotes have generated some pretty strong offensive metrics in the first week of the 2021 campaign but more than that is the Golden Knights are on the verge of a loss, as they haven’t or are not playing well enough to be or to remain undefeated. Big overlay here.
