ST. LOUIS -1½ +140 over San Jose

9:05 PM EST. OT included. Watching the Blue Notes barely squeeze by the Sharks on Monday night was a little bit tortuous if you bet the Blues but we’re happy to come back for more. You see, St. Louis fell behind 2-0 and it was a long swim back from there, thus, they were never able to crush the Sharks’ will. Eventually, St. Louis would win, 5-4 but easy it was not. Prior to that slow start and not so impressive victory over the Sharkies, St. Louis lost to Colorado, 8-0. One game removed from playing in the high altitude of Denver, the Blue Notes are primed to put together a strong effort here and yet, here they are the exact same price as they were on Monday only this time, don’t expect the Sharks to get lucky and hang around again.

St. Louis dominated. They forced Devan Dubnyk to make a lot of difficult saves. In fact, the Blues had a 24-8 edge in scoring chances, not to mention a 7-0 edge in High Danger Scoring Chances during five-on-five play. The 5-4 final score was one of the more misleading scores of the season thus far. For the Sharkies to hang around again, they’re going to have to get very lucky again and they will in no way be able to rely on their goaltending for good fortune.

Martin Jones is getting paid and that’s why he’s getting played. The Sharks are paying the worst goaltender in the NHL 35 million for six years and this is year three. They are simply not going to pay him that type of money to sit on the bench otherwise he would be the taxi squad goaltender. Dude has a 4.34 goals-against average and .869 save percentage in his previous two appearances and both appearances came against the offensively challenged Coyotes. Jones was pulled in his last outing on Jan. 16 against Arizona after he surrendered five goals on 24 shots but it’s not just two games. It’s all of last year also. This is San Jose’s fourth game this year and also its fourth straight on the road.
