Game 2
Arizona/Colorado o5½ +114
2:00 PM EST. OT included. From our humble perspective, this looked like a banger of a first-round series with tons of offensive firepower on both sides. To that point, the Avalanche tried to hold up their end of the deal after firing 40 shots on Coyote's netminder Darcy Kuemper in Game 1, but he channelled his inner Patty Roy for over two and a half periods before letting in a powerplay marker by Nazim Kadri. The flood gates opened after that, as the Avs added two more markers in less than a minute and a half.
‘Yotes head coach Rick Tocchet described his team's success up until the midway point of the third period of Game 1 in three words, "It's Darcy, Darcy, Darcy, and that's it. You know what? He's right. The Coyotes have given up more shots than any other team in the bubble era and no keeper has faced more shots than Kuemper, which is significant when you consider that the Blue Jackets' Joonas Korpisalo faced 88 pucks in Game 1 against Tampa. The point is this, Kuemper stood on his head and his team still gave up three goals in less time than it takes to serve a minor penalty. What could happen if he woke on the wrong side of the bed this morning? NHLers are creatures of habit (goalies especially) and this game will go off at noon local time in Edmonton, which means that both clubs are already at the rink. These early starts are often unpredictable and provide no advantage for the 'tenders.
The Avalanche are more than capable of sending this game over the number on their own, but it would also not be unexpected if the Yotes got off the schneid and chipped in as well. Either way, this is a great value bet. Invest.
