Game 2

Montreal -½ +280 over Philadelphia

3:00 PM EST. Regulation only. How long were the Flyers under the radar for? You may recall when play resumed that the Flyers were an underdog to Tampa, Boston and Washington in their round-robin matches. They won all three and subsequently became the #1 seed in the East. They then went on to defeat the Habs, 2-1 in the series opener to now become the favorite in the East to win the Cup and the third overall favorite (behind Vegas and Colorado) to win the Cup. While we have written many times over the past two weeks about how dangerous the Flyers are, it is now time to switch gears because their stock has gone from underpriced to overpriced in a very short time span.

Montreal was not outclassed in Game 1 of this series, nor were the Habs outclassed or lucky when they took down the mistake-prone Penguins. The Canadiens went nose-to-nose with the Flyers in Game 1 and had just as good a chance as winning as the victor. In fact, Montreal had a dominating second period when they held a massive puck possession edge and outshot the Flyers 17-7 in the frame. If not for the hot hand of goalkeeper Carter Hart, the result in Game 1 could have been much different.

Two last things to note here. One, the Habs could be playing with a little extra motivation after their coach, Claude Julien, ended up in the hospital with chest pains and will not be behind the bench anytime in the near future. Finally, the scoreboard says the Flyers are winning but they are not really outplaying anyone. They rank 17th of the 24 teams that started this tournament in puck possession time in the offensive end during five-on-five play and they also rank 20th of the 24 teams in Scoring Chances For during five-on-five play. The price on Montreal to win in regulation is just too good to pass up on.
