N.Y. Rangers +115 over Carolina (Series)

12:00 PM EST. On Feb 27th, the New York Rangers were stuck two goals in Montreal before exploding for five goals in the third to run their road winning streak at that time to nine games. At that time, it was their ninth win in their past 10 games, their 12th win in their past 15. In their final six games before play was stopped, the Rags played an extremely difficult schedule when they had to face Philadelphia, St. Louis, Washington, New Jersey, Dallas and Colorado. They beat Dallas and Washington, they badly outplayed St. Louis and lost to Colorado in OT. Blessed with offensive firepower that includes Artemi Panarin and Mika Zibanejad, the Rangers come at teams with a relentless attack that is difficult to stop and therein lies the problem for Carolina (which we will get to in a sec). One would be hard pressed to find a team with as much speed as the Rangers. Furthermore, the Rags figure to go with KHL superstar goaltender Igor Shesterkin, who did not look a bit out of place in his rookie season under the bright lights of Broadway. 

We all know Carolina’s story. They have underachieved for years. They are a top puck possession team and would be a threat to win it all if they had some goaltending but they don’t. You cannot advance in playoff hockey with weak goaltending and in that regard, the Hurricanes have it in spades. We’re not going to go into the analytics of Carolina because it matters only a little. This wager is all about the Rangers firepower and superior goaltending beating a vulnerable team because it has weak goaltending and has been losing a ton of games over the past five years because of it. You need goaltending to win and Carolina does not have it.
