NEW JERSEY -½ +300 over Washington

1:05 PM EST. Once again we’re going to play both the regulation line and OT included line for 1 unit each. Therefore the wagers are as follows:

New Jersey -½ +300 for 1 unit (Reg only)

New Jersey -½ +180 for 1 unit (OT included)

This is a great situational spot for the Devils. Now add in the fact that the line is inflated because market perception is off on both sides and we have an outstanding value and situational play brewing. First up is the Washington Capitals, a team that has lost three in a row and five of its last six games and seven of its last 10. The only three teams that the Caps have been able to beat over their last 10 games are Ottawa, L.A. and Colorado.

The Caps just returned home from a three-game trip through Colorado, Arizona and Vegas to play one home game against the Habs. They lost that game to a Montreal squad that had just lost five in a row. The Caps will take the road again for this one-game trip to New Jersey for a matinee game before returning home tomorrow afternoon to host the Penguins on NBC’s game of the week. Washington v Pittsburgh is always a big deal, thus the Caps feel like playing an afternoon game in New Jersey today about as much as one feels like driving home in rush hour. Situationally, this is a horrible scheduling spot for the favorite and they’re goaltenders are in lousy form to boot.

Goaltending, goaltending, goaltending, goaltending. That’s what decides hockey games more than anything else and the proof is in the results every single day. It is for that reason once again that the Devils are a live and wickedly strong pooch here. Now hear this; Starting goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood is 20-12-7 on the season when he starts. The rest of the Devils goaltenders are 3-15-3. Yeah, the Devils have lost 18 of 21 games with the group of Cory Schneider, Louis Domingue and Gilles Senn. Blackwood stopped 36 of 37 shots against the San Jose Sharks on Thursday night, and his save percentage somehow went down. He’s allowed a preposterous five goals on his last 201 shots. This is an insane heater that Blackwood is on that has allowed the Devils to win five of their last eight games. No reason they can’t win this one too.
