ARIZONA -½ +190 over Pittsburgh

6:08 PM EST. The Coyotes return home from a trip but it was a brief three-gamer so we are not concerned about the “returning home from a trip” angle that the market likes to fade. The ‘Yotes have had the preferred one full day off between games and we especially like that they dropped their last two games of said trip. There is also some extra value on the Coyotes because they are down to their third string goaltender. That said, this is more about fading the Penguins.

If you are Pittsburgh, you must be feeling pretty damn good these days. Missing Sidney Crosby, and Nick Bjugstad for a considerable amount of time, the Pens have been quietly racking up points since October. More recently, the Pens lost their top point getter, Jake Guentzel and they are still racking up points. Imagine the Leafs for instance losing Matthews, Tavaras and Marner and you get a sense of just how impressive the Penguins have been this year. They have also played several games without other key personnel like Patrik Hornqvist, Evgeni Malkin, Kris Letang and Bryan Rust among others. Pittsburgh’s season this year might be the most impressive of all NHL teams because they are doing it no matter who they put on the ice. Imagine what happens when all those great players return. At anywhere from 12-1 to 17-1, one could do a lot worse than betting Pittsburgh to win the Cup. However, in this one game, they look to be very vulnerable.

Pittsburgh is coming off back-to-back wins in Vegas and Colorado. This is the final leg of a said three-game trip and it is extremely rare for teams to sweep this common trip (Colorado, Vegas, Arizona). Furthermore, the Pens only managed 16 shots on net and 8 scoring chances in Vegas and they were the second best team in Colorado too. Both Crosby and Bjugstad are both skating. They are expected back any time now so there has to be a little bit of complacency/satisfaction to the entire team knowing that they have held the fort without its best players. We’re suggesting this is a bad spot for the Penguins and we’ll hope to catch them complacent and ready to get back home to play with a healthy roster. The Coyotes figure to be the more jacked up of the two.
