NASHVILLE -½ +180 over Boston
8:05 PM EST. Regulation only. Four players on the Bruins roster have over 10 goals. Six forwards have fewer than five, four regular players have fewer than two. Of course, points aren’t everything but the disparity is clear and it’s troubling. The point is that the Boston Bruins are a one-line team and Nashville is more than capable of containing one line. The blueprint to beat the Bruins is not a difficult one. Throw everything you have at the Bergeron line and make guys like Chris Wagner, Par Lindholm, Brett Ritchie, Anders Bjork and Danton Heinen among others beat you. The second line of defense for the Bruins is their goaltending. Tuukka Rask may win this game for the B’s and if he does, so be it. The Bruins are struggling these days because the blueprint has been drawn up. This is without question one of the more overvalued teams in the NHL.
Show us a good goaltender and we’ll show you a good coach. Show us a bad goaltender, we’ll show you a coach soon to be looking for work and that’s really the story for this game. Bruce Cassidy is an All-Star coach while Peter Laviolette is a fired one and it’s all because one has great goaltending and the other has garbage goaltending. That doesn’t change here but Boston cannot be favored in Nashville either.
Amazingly, the Preds are four points out of a playoff spot right now and are the fifth worst team in the West. This is essentially the same team that has been a regular season monster for years. The Preds defense is among the best corps in the game and the offense is heavy on the puck and it’s loaded with talent too. A new coach does not change the goaltending situation (see San Jose), but we cannot be concerned about that. Our goal is to find value and in that regard, Nashville is the host, they’re underachieving and they’re more than capable of going on a Blues-like run if they can get some adequate goaltending. Big overlay.
