LOS ANGELES -½ +200 over Nashville

10:05 PM EST. The Preds are coming off that Winter Classic circus in Dallas and although they lost, it was still a difficult assignment to have to deal with everything that playing in that game requires. Aside from that, the Preds are a below .500 team because their goaltenders have been yanked more than any other pair this season. When you bet the Preds as the chalk, you are seriously rolling the dice and hoping it doesn’t come up snake eyes with one of their goalies. If Nashville had adequate goaltending, they would be 15 games above ,500 and not three games below.

Speaking of weak goaltending, one need not look further than the Kings. So, why are the Kings playable and the Preds are not? It’s because of the price. If Nashville was +210 to win in regulation, they would be the bet here but trust us when we suggest again that the Kings are the most undervalued squad in the NHL because the market perceives them as one of the worst. Seriously, ask yourself how many times you have seen the Kings play this year before you agree that they’re no bloody good. That perception is fueled by L.A.’s weak record but it is truly a rare night when they get outplayed or outworked. L.A is coming off a 5-3 win over Philadelphia in a game they had a 4-0 lead in the first and that was their worst period of the game, as they were outchanced 10-4. On paper, it looks like it was their best period. The game before, L.A. lost in Vancouver 3-2 and on paper, it was just another expected loss but under the hood, L.A. outchanced Vancouver 39-17 and outshot them 51-26. The Kings rank 3rd in the entire league in time spent in the offensive end during five-on-five play and as long as Jonathan Quick or Jack Campbell is not worse than Pekka Riinne or Juuse Saros, we’ll have a better chance of cashing this ticket than ripping it up. Keep the Kings high on your radar until the books/market adjusts to how tough they really are.
