N.Y. Rangers -½ +230 over VANCOUVER

10:05 PM EST. The Rangers played in Calgary on Thursday so this isn’t a difficult spot despite it being their fourth road game in a row. In fact, it’s the Rangers final game of a four-game trip in which they are 1-2 so there is no complacency for this visitor. This is a hard-working Rangers’ squad that surely will be putting emphasis on going 2-2 on this trip instead of 1-3. They started off with a win in Toronto before losing in Edmonton and Calgary by the slimmest of margins. The Rangers are just so dangerous with a slew of snipers leading the way. We also love the spot for the Rags.

Vancouver’s stock is way too high after reeling off six wins in a row. In back-to-back wins over Calgary and Los Angeles, the Canucks were outchanced by a combined 63-33! In their first two wins of this current streak, the Canucks beat Vegas and Pittsburgh while being outchanced by a sickening 52-24. Against Pittsburgh, the Canucks had seven scoring chances the entire game, which is the lowest output of any team this year in any game. In four of the Canucks six wins during this streak, they were dominated badly. The other two wins were against Chicago and Edmonton and they needed three third period goals to beat the Blackhawks. If you think the Canucks are playing well, think again because they’re not. They rank bottom four alongside the Islanders, Red Wings and Senators in puck-possession numbers over the past month. Aside from being grossly overvalued because of recent results, there are more reasons to fade the Canucks here. The Canucks have also played the 30th ranked Strength of Schedule in the league and they continue to get dominated frequently.

Canucks

First, the league announced that Jacob Markstrom is Marc Andre Fleury’s replacement for the All-Star game after the latter decided to skip it. That puts Markstrom in the spotlight because the media salivates over this garbage. In other words, there is suddenly some accolades and pressure on him to perform well after being named to his first All-Star team. Secondly, the Canucks have played one road game since December 17th, a short trip to Calgary, so essentially they have been home for 17 days. This is the final game of six of their last seven at home before they head out to begin a five-game trip that will start in Florida on Tuesday. Playing the final game of a long homestand is a horrible spot, as these guys cannot wait to hit the road after being home for so long and this road trip starts in sunny Florida too. Biggest overlay on the NHL board today and we’re all over it.
