Buffalo -½ +350 over BOSTON

7:08 PM EST. Regulation only. Did you know that nowhere in Las Vegas (that we know of) can one take the underdog and spot a half puck. Why? Hockey continues to be the most luck-driven sport by the widest of margins and the result is that we’re being offered stupid prices like this one. Speaking of luck, that is what the Bruins are running on these days because they are not usually outplaying the opposition and only their great goaltending is the reason why they win so frequently. Great goaltending is a winning model (see NYI the last two seasons), but Boston’s sum is better than its parts.

The problem is there’s no secondary scoring threat on this team, and while you can usually count on the top line to score one or two, it’s not gonna happen every time out. The B’s have no punch without those top three forwards. Zooming out for the season, they’re minus-11 in all situations when any of those forwards is off the ice, and plus-37 when any are on. The blueprint is there to beat this team and perhaps the Sabres can execute it.

These two met two days ago in Buffalo and the B’s won 3-0. It’s now back to Boston for the rematch. Incidentally, Buffalo outchances Boston last game and held them to 24 shots on net but still lost. We’re going to need Buffalo’s goaltending to be adequate but at the end of the day, the Bruins are still beatable.
