Nashville -½ +200 over PITTSBURGH

7:05 PM EST. Regulation only. We have great respect for the Penguins because they always compete no matter what and they always seem to find some hidden gems that other teams have passed over. This year’s hidden gem is John Marino, the 154th pick of the draft five years ago, that finally got his first taste of NHL action this year with the Pens and has been outstanding. He plays in the shadow of Quinn Hughes and Cale Makar and he won’t win the Calder but he’s been just as important to the Pens as the aforementioned other pair have been to their respective teams.

These two played last night and the Penguins won 5-2 after Pekka Rinne was yanked (again) after allowing three goals on the first five shots. Rinne didn’t make it out of the first period last night and he’s also the main reason that the Preds lose far more games than they should. In fact, Rinne is the reason that the Preds are a .500 team and not 10-12 games above .500. It is a rare day indeed when the Preds are outplayed, outworked or outchanced.

Nashville ranks top three in almost every key category besides goaltending. We’re not sure if the Preds are going to come back with Rinne or use Juuse Saros but we’re not going to worry about it. We’ll live with whomever the Preds put in net because Nashville is too good to refuse a price like this after losing (and outplaying) this host last night in Nashville. The Preds are healthy, they’re heavy on the puck and they have a great chance to win.
