Los Angeles -½ +260 over VANCOUVER

10:00 PM EST. Regulation only. This is another case of a team with a game under its belt after the break going up against a team that has been off since the 23rd of December but it’s more than just that and perhaps it’s time we start paying more attention to the Kings before their stock rises. Won/loss records influence prices and perception more than performances and it’s for that reason that the Kings are categorized as being in the lower tier of the NHL. The Kings 36 points or 16-20-4 record puts them ahead of only two teams, Detroit and San Jose, in the entire league. The Kings are also tied with two other teams, Anaheim and Ottawa. However, since the start of the season and all the way to the present, Los Angeles has been a top four puck-possession team throughout. Whether you break it down in two week intervals, one month intervals or the entire season, L.A. ranks top-5 in every puck possession category.

Last night, the Kings outshot San Jose 38-24 and outchanced them 31-17. The Kings have outchanced eight of their last 11 opponents, which includes outchancing the Penguins, 24-11 in a 4-2 loss, outchancing Detroit 26-9 (!) and even outchancing the Blues 25-20 in a horrible spot just before the break. The Kings do not get outplayed often but like the Preds, goaltending has been a major issue as to why they are not contending for a playoff spot. The L.A. Kings are very much like the Carolina Hurricanes in years past. That being a rock-solid, puck control team that never made the playoffs because of weak goaltending. That Hurricanes team pulled off a lot of upsets and this L.A squad is more than capable of doing the same. Keep your eye on them.
