Columbus -½ +250 over FLORIDA

7:05 PM EST. First off, the Jackets are without question the most disrespected team in this market and it’s not even close. Almost daily, the Jackets are underpriced because they are perceived as a weak team for whatever reason when that is not the case at all. Columbus ranks highly in many key possession categories over the first one third of the season and the numbers are even better over the last month. The Jackets outshot the Rangers last game 47-19 but lost 3-2. It was one of the more dominating performances of the season by any team versus another but all this market sees is results. For instance, Boston’s 8-1 win over Montreal will resonate and get loads of credit while the Jackets 3-2 loss to the Rangers will appear as just another loss and get no credit. The Jackets were far more dominating over the Rags than Boston was over Montreal in those two examples but that’s how this results based business works. Columbus is a competitive, talented, hard-working and hungry team that is very worthy of getting behind here but there’s more.

Florida is a very good hockey team too but the Panthers made the big mistake of acting out of desperation when they signed Sergei Bobrovsky to a massive contract in the off-season. So far, zero dividends have been paid back, as Bob continues to be one of the league’s biggest liabilities. If the Panthers weren’t paying him so much, he wouldn’t even be playing but Florida is not going to pay him $80M to sit. They would rather lose than look like idiots. Florida is coming off a 4-2 loss to Minnesota in a game they absolutely dominated by outshooting the Wild 46-25. Bob has been in net once since November 24th because the Panthers can’t stomach him much anymore. Bobrovsky comes in with a save percentage of .884 and the Panthers will turn to him tonight to get a crack at the team he left for greener pastures. Seriously, is there a team in the NHL that knows Bob’s weaknesses more than the players that faced him in practice every day for years? The Jackets' players are salivating at the chance to stick it to their old teammate and like us, they also know that Bob is a weak goaltender that got very lucky one year and won a Vezina. Bob is slow, he’s horrible, he’s a liability to be sure and when he’s in goal, the opposition has a great chance to win.
