Colorado -½ +240 over BOSTON

7:05 PM EST. Regulation only. Both these teams are hot right now with the Bruins picking up 19 out of a possible 20 points over their last 10 games. Meanwhile, the Avs have reeled off five in a row, which includes back-to-back wins In Toronto and in Montreal this week before this one. Thing is, Boston is winning despite not even coming close to dominating. The B’s are not drawing a lot of penalties, which is a tell tale sign that the opposition isn’t chasing them around. A look at Boston’s 24th place ranking in puck possession numbers over the past 20 days confirms that. Boston isn’t dominating anyone. They beat Ottawa 2-1 despite being outshot 37-24. When they beat the Habs, 8-1 they scored those eight goals on 24 shots. They beat the Rangers and Minnesota in OT while losing to the ice-cold Blackhawks in another OT game. They beat Buffalo 3-2 despite being dominated in puck-possession time and shots on net. The Avs, meanwhile are winning by two goals or more quite frequently and continue to create more scoring opportunities than most.

Boston opened the year with a four-game trip to Dallas, Arizona, Vegas and Colorado. Since then, the B’s have not played more than two in a row on the road. Boston has also been home for four straight so this will be its fifth straight at home. After this one, the B’s will finally hit the road again for four games that will end with two games against the Bolts and Panthers in sunny Florida. The Bruins have been vulnerable but escaping with wins for a month or more and now they’re in an unfavorable spot. We cannot stress enough how much these players look forward to road trips after being at home for an extended period of time.
