Pittsburgh -½ +170 over NY ISLANDERS
7:05 PM EST. Regulation only. The Islanders extreme luck continues. This weak team is now on a 10-game winning streak. Some of the best teams ever couldn’t string together 10 in a row yet here are the Islanders getting outplayed almost every single night with an 11-3 record after 14 games. If it were the Penguins that were on a 10-game win streak and the game was in Pittsburgh, the Pens would be a 2-1 favorite. In this instance, the Isles are on a 10-game winning streak and the game is -110 both ways. What does that say? It says that the books also know that this host is a complete fraud. The Islanders possession numbers are worse than both Ottawa and Detroit.
The Penguins might be without Kris Letang tonight after he was injured against Boston. His status will be determined later. Patric Hornqvist is also out yet the books still don’t care and still made the game a pick-em. Yeah, the Islanders luck could continue but they are playing a legitimate juggernaut that looks as strong as anyone. The Penguins went into Boston and dominated the Bruins in a 6-4 loss last time out. Weak goaltending resulted in Matt Murray being yanked after one period but it was just poor puck luck that did them in. The Pens outshot the B’s 44-26 and outchanced them 23-11. The game prior, Pittsburgh outshot Edmonton 52-28 and lost 2-1. What we have here is one team that gets outplayed every night and wins against a team that dominates the opposition and loses. The Islanders very simply can’t keep winning by playing this poorly and we must stick with it here.
