San Jose -½ +170 over CHICAGO

8:35 PM EST. Regulation only. Chicago returns from one game overseas against Philadelphia to play its home opener here. Philadelphia was in a similar situation last night and won handily over the Devils but New Jersey has looked completely out of sorts early on. Corey Hart was also tremendous in net. We’re not going to give the Blackhawks the same respect. Although the Blackhawks may be undervalued because they missed the playoffs last year and appear to be on the decline, we’ll leave that for another day soon when we’re playing Chicago. We don’t like this situation for the Blackhawks but more importantly, it is the Sharks that come into this game winless with their stock lower than it’s been for a very long time.

San Jose is winless in four tries with losses to the Golden Knights twice Nashville and Anaheim. In that 5-2 loss to Nashville, San Jose had 26 scoring chances to the Preds 12. In its second loss to Vegas (5-1), scoring chances were dead equal at 23 a piece. San Jose is losing mainly because Martin Jones can’t stop a puck but that won’t be an issue here with Aaron Dell getting the nod. The Sharks may not be a contender but they’re still a very good team with star power, good defense and decent secondary scoring. They still have three All-Star defensemen too. The Sharkies stock is so low that it’s the perfect time to buy.

One last note here is that Chicago went out and signed Robin Lehner in the offseason. Lehner is coming off a career year on Long Island and would normally be a #1 goaltender. The Blackhawks started Corey Crawford in their opener and they are coming right back on Crawford here. Why? It appears as though the Blackhawks are showcasing Crawford in hopes that he impresses someone and then they can move him and perhaps get something for him. There are always goaltender desperate teams that will bite but Crawford looked slow and shaky in his season debut.
