7:00 PM EST. OT included. The home team is 0-5 in this series but that’s not why we’re playing the Jets. We’re playing the Jets simply because they have a better or equal chance of winning this game and that is where the value lies. We’re strong advocates of the luck factor in this sport more than any other and once again the proof is in the pudding. In the NBA for instance, eight seeds don’t knock out one seeds and seven seeds don’t knock out two seeds all the time like they do in the NHL. In baseball and football, not enough teams make the playoffs to make the same comparisons but the point is that luck is a massive factor in the outcome. Take game five in Winnipeg for instance. With the Jets up 2-0, they had the best opportunity to add another marker on a Kevin Hayes shot that trickled through Binnington’s pads. As Hayes was trying to tap it over the line, he ended up getting hauled down and halted the puck’s progress. If he hadn’t interfered, the Jets would have put the game away at 3-0 and we’d be talking about an elimination game for St. Louis instead.

In the very last minute of the game, the Jets got pinned deep behind the net. Except, there was no real pressure, and Trouba had the puck with plenty of time to clear it out. Instead, Jake allowed the Blues to swarm him from behind while Morrissey and Scheifele got beaten, and Bozak stripped the puck along the walls. He fed a fortunate, yet perfect, cross-ice pace to Schwartz and he buried it. These are just two examples in one game that changed the course of the series but one cannot make the argument that the Blue Notes have been the better team because they have not been. Thus, there is no question that Winnipeg holds all the value here as a priced underdog in a game in which they will very likely be the better team once again, just like they have been in more periods in this series than not.
