10:05 PM EST. Regulation only. The Jets have won four in a row and it’s not like they beat up a bunch of weaklings. No, Winnipeg’s last four victories came against Boston, Calgary, L.A., and Anaheim. Ok, they beat two weaklings. However, what sticks out is that the Jets did not win the Scoring Chances For battle against any of those teams. Winnipeg beat Boston 4-3 with the scoring chances favoring the B’s, 25-14, they beat Calgary 2-1 with the scoring chances favoring the Flames, 18-11 and they beat the Ducks last night 3-0 with the scoring chances being dead even at 17 each. Even against L.A., the scoring chances were even at 23 a piece. All of the above were during five-on five play. Additionally, the Jets have mustered a mere 25, 24, 21, 28 and 23 shots on net over their last five games respectively. The Winnipeg Jets are riding the hot hands of their goaltenders right now, which is the only reason they’re winning games the past 10 days. Finally, the Jets will play their third road game in four days, the tail end of back-to-backs and their 8th game since March 8, 13 days ago. This is also Winnipeg’s final game of said trip and they’ll return home to play Nashville on Saturday. Not only is this a horrible/unfavorable spot for the Jets but they’re playing a rested juggernaut.

Make no mistake that Vegas is the straight goods. We’ve said it all year that they’re a better team this year than last and it might not be close. Vegas does everything well from moving the puck out crisply and efficiently to creating chances and to keeping the puck away from the opposition. Analytically speaking, one would be hard pressed to find a team as good and as consistent as this one. The Golden Knights have gone through some scoring droughts this season but it’s not because they couldn’t finish or because they can’t score. Vegas is first in the NHL in Expected Goals For at Even Strength, so clearly when they weren’t scoring, it was due to hot goaltenders and poor puck luck. Incidentally, the Knights are coming off a 7-3 win over the Sharks and the game before, they buried six on the Oilers. Confident, rested and gearing up for the playoffs, the Knights cannot wait for the puck to drop while the Jets come in fatigued, not in great form and in the last game of a tough trip.
