7:05 PM EST. Win or lose, this is without question the bargain of the night and we would not fault anyone if they chose to play the Bruins in regulation in the -110 to -115 range. However, we’ll exclude any extra time because Boston is simply the far superior team and doesn’t need OT to dispose of the Islanders.

The Boston Bruins are one of the top two teams in the East and if they do happen to meet Tampa Bay in the second round of the playoffs, it wouldn’t surprise us one bit to see Boston win. The B’s rarely get outplayed, outworked or outchanced. They are an analytics beast both offensively and defensively, ranking top three in several categories and top five in almost all categories.

What we’re constantly hearing about regarding the Islanders is their great improvement on defense. In fact, the Isles will be the first team since expansion to go from dead last in goals against one year to first overall in goals against the following year. Once again we’ll point out that is result based only and goes to prove once again how luck-driven this sport is. What that doesn’t tell you is that the Islanders defense is garbage. They aren’t allowing goals because their goaltenders are standing on their heads and have been for 70 games. What the Isles great goals against record doesn’t tell you is that the team ranks DEAD LAST in the NHL in Scoring Chances Against since the beginning of February, a span of 24 games. Not the Blackhawks, Flyers, Senators or Leafs have allowed more scoring chances than the Isles but Toronto has allowed six goals or more in a bunch of games lately while the Islanders have allowed a fraction of that. Yeah, Robin Lehner or Thomas Greiss are part of the team but neither has come close to posting the numbers they have put up this year and everything about the Islanders is in line for a big time correction to the bad. We repeat, that great Islanders defense that the media keeps praising is giving up more scoring chances over the past six weeks than Ottawa, Chicago, Toronto and Philly or anyone else that you can think of.
