9:05 PM EST. OT included. This is strictly a situational play on the home dog, who is in a highly favorable spot here. You see, Calgary played last night in Vegas in a very hostile and playoff-like atmosphere. The game before that, the Flames hosted the Maple Leafs in one of the most anticipated home games of the year for Calgary. Thus, the Flames are coming off back-to-back highly intense and emotionally charged games. The “Vegas Hangover or Vegas Flu” are in play and to top it all off, after this one, the Flames have the Golden Knights on deck back in Calgary. That’s the set-up for the Flames but there’s more. Calgary dropped both those aforementioned games and have now lost five of its last seven. David Rittich was in goal last night and played well in a 2-1 loss but the talk/issues surrounding the Flames revolve around their biggest flaw, goaltending. Does not matter how good a team is, when goaltending is weak, winning games becomes a major issue. The players hear it, the goaltenders hear it and mindset changes. Guys are not as aggressive, as every mistake seemingly ends up in the back of the net. The result is less goals being scored too. Calgary is in “playoff trouble” and will likely turn to Mike Smith tonight in this hugely unfavorable spot. It has been said that it is a real pain in the butt getting to and playing in Glendale, too, especially on weeknights. In a bad situational spot, every detail matters.

We love that the ‘Yotes six-game winning streak ended against Anaheim. We also love that Coyotes coach Rick Tocchet described the effort as “Garbage”. The defense was a few steps behind all night and offensively, the Coyotes never posed much of a threat. Intensity was low and one can be assured it will not be low again in this one. Perhaps the ‘Yotes were thinking of the Flames when they put forth that weak effort on Tuesday, as Arizona is 0-3 this year against Calgary while being outscored 18-4. We have no idea what’s going to happen in this game but what we do know is that Arizona is getting some bodies back (Jason Demers for sure and perhaps Michael Grabner) and that they’re in an extremely more favorable spot than the Flames. The number also appears “low” for a market that is cashing on on favorites (12-2 over the past two nights) like it’s Christmas.
