10:05 PM EST. OT included. Last night in the NHL the favorites went 9-1. Six of those games went to OT or shootout with one other being a 1-0 win by Dallas over the New York Rangers. The “easy” winners were Tampa Bay and Montreal. Some of last night’s favs were grossly overpriced and those backing the favs dodged some bullets to be sure. The Rags, Detroit, Florida and Ottawa were all massive dogs that could have won just as easily as the chalk. Detroit never trailed in their game in Colorado until the Avs buried one in OT. The point is that favorites are inflated this time of year more than any other time, as the market puts emphasis on teams fighting for playoff spots or positioning while the also-rans are perceived as just playing out the schedule. The market perception and overpriced favs is something we have to try and take advantage of. We cannot and will not be poisoned by the results over this season. We are still in attack mode even after last night’s Detroit loss put us 18 games under .500 in extra time.

The fact that the Blues are -180 in Anaheim is preposterous. The reason St. Louis is priced so high is because the Ducks will play its third game in four nights and tail end of back-to-backs and also because the Blues get at least one body back tonight in Brayden Schenn. We couldn’t care less because the Ducks won both those games and held Colorado and Arizona to 26 and 23 shots on net respectively. Against Arizona last night, the Yotes didn’t even get a shot on net until there was about nine minutes left in the first period. The Ducks have been great defensively the past four games or so and have shown a great improvement in everything they’re doing since Randy Carlyle was shown the door.

Remember how the Blues were the hottest team in the league for all of February? St. Louis rode the hot hand of rookie sensation Jordan Binnington to surge over seven teams and into a playoff spot. However, they have lost four of their last six and we have to wonder why. Actually, we don’t have to wonder. They have lost four of six because the clock struck midnight on Binnington. The Blues surrendered four, five and five goals in three of those losses. In the other loss, they failed to score in Nashville. So, not only are the Blues suddenly not scoring but they’re goaltending is back to being a problem. Now it’s the Ducks and not the Blues that have a new-found energy. This line is bordering on insane and if we rip this ticket up, so be it.
