9:05 PM EST. OT included. There is no question that this is as big of a must win game as the Avalanche have had all season long. Colorado sits three points out of a Wild Card spot, they’ve lost two in a row and they’ll now host the coldest team in the NHL. There is also no question that one will pay a heavy premium to back the Avs here. Of course Colorado can and should win but wasn’t last game against the Ducks just as important? Colorado scored once in Anaheim in a 2-1 loss and fired away just 26 shots on net with a low Corsi For total of 42. The Avs are also 13-18 at home with OT losses included.

Currently in a seven-game winless streak and only four points from the 31st and final spot in the NHL standings, the Wings are in a massive tailspin. The market perception of this team is getting worse by the day but we’re going to stick to our guns and suggest they are the most undervalued team in the NHL. The Red Wings have been a highly competitive team more nights than not this season without the wins to show for it. The Wings were beginning to establish an identity of a fast-skating, hard-working team, especially during a hot stretch in November but that is long forgotten, as the season slipped away after so many one-goal losses. At prices like this against beatable teams like the Avs, we’re committed to sticking with it and perhaps there is a ghost in the room to inspire the Red Wings for at least one night.

At the end of the season, if you’re the best player in the NHL, the trophy they give you is named after Ted Lindsay. That’s all you really need to know. He won four Stanley Cups and once led the league in scoring, was a Red Wings general manager and briefly their coach, played on one of the greatest/famous lines in history alongside Gordie Howe and Sid Abel (The Production Line), he was a pioneer of the game, who lobbied  for players fair representation, a concept that was nonexistent when Lindsay became a pro in the mid-1940s and all of the above accomplishments don’t begin to tell this his story. Every player in that Red Wings locker room knew Lindsay, as he was a fixture around the rink and his #7 hangs from the rafters of Little Caesars Arena.

All the perks today’s players enjoy can be traced back to Lindsay and if the Red Wings players didn’t know that yesterday, they know it today. We’re not sure if this will have any effect on tonight’s performance by the Red Wings but we have to trust that every player in that Detroit locker room will dig down a little deeper in an attempt to show respect to one of the greatest players and human beings to wear the uniform they’ll be representing tonight.
