7:00 PM EST. Mindset is everything and the Flyers had their hearts ripped out yesterday when Wayne Simmonds was traded to Nashville. Not only did Philadelphia lose a fan favorite and by all accounts a great teammate, but it also appears that the Flyers are leaning towards looking to next year than perhaps a trip to the playoffs. NHL players are a different breed, but the grind is real and that empty stall is going to loom large in the Philly locker room tonight. The Flyers are also coming off a huge come from behind win over the hated Penguins on Saturday, which could lead to this being a letdown spot. We'd argue that if there was any doubt about that, the way the Flyers chose to cash in on Simmonds rather than make a run at a Wild Card might have sealed the deal. Meanwhile, on the other end of the ice, the Flyers will face what should be a spirited Sabres side that is playing some damn good hockey.

It was an action-packed trade deadline day with many teams making a big splash, as they push for the cup, but these Sabres made a shrewd move on Sunday when they traded Brendan Gurle and a first round pick this summer to Anaheim for defenseman Brandon Montour. Not only did Buffalo add a real quality piece to its lineup, but Sabres management also let the locker know what their intentions are for this season. Buffalo is six points back of Carolina for the final Wild Card spot and a big reason why the brass up top may have decided to make a push was because of a pair of quality performances against the Leafs and Capitals respectively. Buffalo outshot Washington 38-33 in a big 5-2 win on Saturday afternoon and it ran circles around Toronto last night despite falling 5-3. The only reason the Sabres took the loss was because Carter Hutton was hot garbage and allowed four straight second period goals to suck the life out the bench. When a goalie gives up weak goals, it's tough to keep your energy up. With Linus Ullmark taking the crease tonight, we are going to trust the Sabres one more time.
