They lost to Arizona in OT so we could easily be discussing a team on a four-game winning streak. The Islanders will play their third straight on the Canadian West Coast, a stretch that NHL players have been calling the toughest trip for years, and we have to question just how much the Isles have left in the tank here after overachieving for the first four months of the season. Over their last five games, the Isles have mustered a mere 25, 27, 24, 19 and 23 shots on net respectively. They were outshot in Edmonton 41-23 on Wednesday. The Islanders have created the lowest amount of scoring chances in the entire league over the past three weeks and perhaps their overachieving is finally catching up to them. It is no secret that the Isles sum is better than their parts. From the opening puck-drop in early October to the present, the Isles have defied logic by winning far more games than they deserve to. Give em credit for playing their hearts out and buying into a system put in place by a coach that realized he had less to work with than most but it has worked up to this point. The Isles have suddenly lost two in a row, they’ve been thoroughly outplayed in five straight and they are an undeserving road favorite that we will not hesitate to bet against.
