7:35 PM EST. Regulation only. One could play both our games with OT included today but the price in regulation is so much greater and if the game is tied, it becomes a skills contest decided by 100% pure luck. We much prefer the regulation price on anything over -105.

It looks like Chicago will use Collin Delia tonight over Cam Ward but it matters not because both are a liability. Delia was pulled after he allowed three goals on 10 shots in the Blackhawks crazy 8-7 win over the Senators on Monday. Delia played really well for a cup of coffee or two but has struggled since by allowing at least three goals in six straight appearances and allowing a combined 23 goals on 192 shots (.880 SV%). Furthermore, no team in the NHL has allowed more scoring chances against then the Blackhawks. That does not bode well for Delia and it’s also not a winning model. Chicago has been winning games lately but it’s all fool’s gold, as a team cannot sustain winning by playing so poorly. Analytically speaking, the Blackhawks are a team in trouble and as soon as their recent hot shooting percentage drops to anywhere near normal, they’ll be losing just as frequently as they were in the first 3½-months of the season.

After a very rough stretch that saw them lose 12 of 14 games, the Avalanche have their swag back. During that funk, Colorado was not playing poorly. Instead, they were suffering from extremely poor puck luck and could not buy a win. However, the Avs snapped out of it with three wins in their last four games and it’s not like they beat up on some weaklings. The Avs beat Vegas once and the Jets twice while outplaying all of them. In between those three wins was a 3-0 loss to the red-hot Blue Notes in a game that was statistically dead even. After playing the Jets twice and the Blue Notes and Vegas once each, the driven Avalanche will take a big step down in competition here. Colorado has been a top-5 possession team for well over two months and it’s starting to pay off. In an evenly priced game, there is nothing even about how these two teams are performing right now under the hood and it’s not in the Blackhawks favor.
