1:05 PM EST. The Flyers are 4-2 over their last six games with the four victories occurring against the Canucks, Ducks, Oilers and Wild, four teams that will be golfing in April. Against Minnesota, Philadelphia was outchanced 29-12, was down 3-1 and scored five times on 25 shots for a 5-4 victory. When they beat the Canucks 2-1, the Flyers were outshot 40-32. When they beat the Oilers 5-4, it came in OT and again, the Flyers were outshot and outchanced. Philadelphia’s only legit victory recently was a 6-2 thrashing over the Ducks but every team is running over that squad. We could just as easily be talking about a Philadelphia squad that is 1-6 over its last seven and then they would be -140 here and not -185. Frankly, the price we’re getting on the Red Wings, win or lose, is stupid.

We’ve been singing the praises of the Red Wings all year but this market still perceives them as a bottom feeder. In the standings, the market wouldn’t be wrong but on the ice, Detroit is more than holding its own. With a positive bounce or two every other game, the Red Wings would be a playoff team and one that nobody would want to face in round one.

Detroit is coming off back-to-back wins over Nashville and Ottawa with the former taking place in Music City. The Red Wings not only won but had to kill six minors in that game. During five-on-five play, they created more chances than the Preds. Prior to beating that pair, Detroit dropped consecutive games at home versus Vegas and then on the road at Buffalo and Chicago. They outshot Chicago 45-35 and then held Buffalo to a lousy 21 shots on net in a 3-1 loss. In that 4-3 home loss to Vegas, they outshot the Knights, 39-32. Prior, the Red Wings reeled off three in a row with one of those victories being against the Maple Leafs in Toronto. All in all, the Red Wings are 5-3 over their last eight games but could easily be 8-0. Since January 1, the Red Wings rank 10th in CF% during five-on-five play and they rank 4th in Scoring Chances Against during that same span while Philadelphia ranks 28th and 23rd respectively in those same two categories. This is an overlay to be sure.
