8:35 PM EST. OT included. We played the Wild in their last game, a 5-4 OT loss to the Flyers and ripped up our ticket in disgust when they outplayed Philadelphia by a wide, wide margin. The Wild held a 29-12 edge in scoring chances and dominated from start to finish but could not overcome the shaky goaltending of Devan Dubnyk.

Tonight, the Wild are in such a good situational spot that they must be played again. That loss to Philadelphia was on Tuesday so Minnesota is rested and cannot wait for the puck to drop. The Wild are in a massive fight for the playoffs with eight other teams so coming off a loss in a game they deserved to win means they’ll just have to dig down deeper here.

By contrast, the Devils have virtually no chance to make the playoffs. They also played in Chicago last night so they’ll play the second game of back-to-backs here but it’s even worse. The Devils will not only play back-to-back but three games in four nights, four games in six nights and their sixth game in the past nine days. We seriously have no idea what will motivate this exhausted team to show up and play well, especially when one considers that they return home to play Buffalo on Sunday, an East division rival that is fighting for its playoff life. Situational plays don’t get better than this one.
