1:00 PM EST. We really don’t have to discuss the Islanders here, as their success has been well documented. The Isles continue to defy logic on every level but let’s give them credit for playing a hard-nosed brand of hockey while relying on Barry Trotz’ strong defensive strategies. That said, this is not a fade on the Islanders. It is about playing value on a team that is playing great and losing.
The Avs are coming off a 4-3 OT loss in Washington to run its losing streak to five games. Let’s have a look at that five-game losing streak.
Washington 4 Colorado 3 The Avs out-Corsied the Caps 55-41 during five-on-five play and outshot them during 5-on-5 also, 24-20.
Blue Jackets 6 Colorado 3 The Avs outchanced the Jackets 22-14 with the Corsi For % being equal
Vancouver 5 Colorado 1 The Avs out-Corsied the Canucks 60-37(!) and outchanced them 21-9
Minnesota 5 Colorado 2 The Avs outchanced, out-hit, outshot, out-Corsied and out-everything the Wild.
Nashville 4 Colorado 1 The Avs held a significant CF% of 66.67 and outchanced them 29-15. They were in the Preds end the entire game.
There you have it --five losses in a row and they have 1 out of a possible 10 points to show for it. Those are just results in this luck-driven sport but what the final score does not tell you is that Colorado has been one of the NHL’s most dominating teams over the past five weeks or even the past seven weeks. Colorado was hot to start the year but there is no question that it is playing better right now than it has been in over five years and a correction to the good is coming. Stick with the Avs because some profits are coming.
