7:05 PM EST. We like that the Jets played last night and got their legs going while the Bruins have been off for 10 days. That’s a long time to be off and it may take the B’s a period or two to get their legs under them. Winnipeg lost in Philadelphia last night but so what. They were not flat, they created lots of scoring chances and only lost because Philadelphia’s goaltender was better than theirs. Winnipeg is 4-2 this year in the second game of back-to-backs when they didn’t have a distinct advantage like they will here against a Bruins’ squad that hasn’t played since the 19th of January.

Boston’s goaltending situation gets a little more interesting now after Tuukka Rask landed on the IR after Boston’s last game. With Rask sidelined with a concussion, Jaroslav Halak will be the Bruins unquestioned #1 for the foreseeable future. Halak has posted a 9-3-0 record with a 2.29 GAA and a .926 SV%. Where the f**k did that come from? Here’s a guy that has been relishing in mediocrity or worse for a decade. There’s a big difference from being the backup to the #1 goaltender and now Halak will be thrust into the top spot. Every year, there are goaltenders, players and teams that overachieve in the first half and then come back down to earth in the second half. We’ll put Halak to the test here, as he’s never been even above average other than one incredible stretch with the Canadiens a very long time ago. Winnipeg relentlessly keeps coming and absolutely has a nice scheduling edge here. Of course the Jets can win.
