8:35 PM EST. Regulation only. In football, a team that gets dominated rarely wins. In a typical 16-game schedule in the NFL, the team that dominates yardage, time of possession, first downs, etc will win 90% of the time. In baseball, a team that outhits the other side, 14-4 or something like that will rarely lose. In basketball, a team that hits 50% of their shots will rarely lose to a team that hits 40% or less. However, one can pick any night in the NHL and look up the full analytics report. What you’ll find is misleading results every single night and usually not just one but several instances where the second best team won. Last night for instance, Colorado had 29 scoring chances to Nashville’s 15, yet the Preds won 4-1. San Jose lost 6-2 but had 25 chances to the Panthers 17. Last night was not unique. The NHL is lined daily with teams that get badly outplayed and win.

It is without question that the two biggest deciding factors in the outcome of NHL games is luck and goaltending and in that regard, the Islanders must be played here. It was announced that Cam Ward will start for the Blackhawks and that’s all the info we need here to move in hard. Cam Ward ranks 69th out of 69 qualified goaltenders in GSAA and no goalie has been yanked more times over the past three seasons than this pure stiff.

The Islanders give up little, they play hard for 60 minutes and they’ll have a massive edge in goal but that’s just all fodder. When Cam Ward is in goal and playing for the team that gives up the most scoring chances in the league, that combo (Ward playing for Chicago) MUST be faded.
