7:05 PM EST. Regulation only. Jack Eichel will sit out at least one more game so whatever appeal the Sabres had was somewhat diminished by that announcement. Of course we prefer to have Eichel in if we’re betting the Sabres but this wager is all about fading the Devils, who are wrapping up a four-game trip here that started in Dallas and will end here. In between, the Devils played in Arizona and Las Vegas, which is our main focus here.
We mentioned the Vegas hangover before and in case you misses it, we’ll present it again. Vegas has played 20 home games this year and they are 14-3-3 but the game after playing might be worse. Teams are 4-12-3 the next game after playing the Knights at T-Mobile Arena and have been outscored by a ridiculous 66-36. Furthermore, it has not mattered if teams played the next day or had a few days off because no matter the situation, the losses have been consistent and ugly. It makes sense too because after the game, teams will either fly out the next morning or afternoon and that gives them about a 6 to 12 hour window to enjoy what Vegas has to offer. Some teams may have flown in the day before so they have had even more time. Now imagine yourself in your 20’s and being in Vegas with a boatload of cash for one night and if you can do that, you will be able to embrace the theory behind the Vegas hangover effect. These guys aren’t in their hotel rooms reading a book. The Devils are not only coming off a game in Vegas to conclude a trip here but they’ll return home to face the Maple Leafs on Thursday. Situationally, it doesn’t get much better than this one.
