9:05 PM EST. OT included. The Rangers are coming off a 7-2 loss to the Penguins but it looks a lot worse on paper than it actually was. The Pens scored seven times on a mere 25 shots on net and the High Danger Scoring Chances were dead even ar 10 a piece. Prior to that misleading final, the Rags had picked up points in four straight with wins over St. Louis and Nashville and OT losses to Philadelphia and Columbus. The Rangers have been playing Henrik Lundqvist too much this season, as he has started 30 of the Rangers 39 games. Georgiev relieved Lundqvist on Wednesday after Lundqvist gave up six goals on 18 shots. Georgiev will get this start and we’ve seen him be both brilliant and awful but we trust he gives the Rags the best chance to win. The Rangers are 7-0-3 in their last 10 versus Western opponents but aside from that, this wager is more fading the reeling Avs that are not only overpriced here but that are also on a horrible scheduling spot.
The Avs have dropped six in a row and when a team has lost that many in a row, it becomes more difficult to win with each passing loss. Players are gripping their sticks tighter and it seems like every mistake is a costly one. Ask any player what the best remedy is for snapping out of a funk and many would suggest that hitting the road is a good place to start, as teams are looser on the road and they don’t have to deal with all the distractions that go with losing so many games in a row. That’s our focus here. Colorado will play its fourth straight at home but they were also at home during the three-day Christmas break. To the players, it probably feels like they’ve been home for a month. After this game, the Avs will head out for what could be a season defining five-game trip that will take them through Winnipeg, Calgary, Montreal, Toronto and Ottawa. We’re suggesting that the Avs are ripe to get beat again, as we’re confident that every player and coach in that Avs locker room can’t wait to hit the road after this one.
